Knights of Council 14360 Honored to be a part of Eucharistic Procession on Feast of Corpus Christi

DSC_0990

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, June 3, 2018,  a number of Brother Knights of Council 14360 helped organize and take part in a very special event held right at St. Matthew in Norwalk.

Bishop Frank J. Caggiano, Bishop of Diocese of Bridgeport, led several hundred people processing out of St. Matthew Church onto local roads to witness our faith in the Eucharistic Lord on the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

The route took worshipers down Richards Avenue and to a turnaround at Norwalk Community College. Everyone then returned to St. Matthew Church for Benediction.

Those who were unable to walk the route were able to remain in the Church during the Procession, during which time the Rosary was prayed.  Those walking in the procession also said the Rosary and sang hymns throughout the journey.

A number of area churches were represented, including members of St. Matthew, St. Ladislaus, St. Philip, and St. Jerome Church.  Many thanks to Beth Ann Murray and all those who worked so hard to make the Procession a success!

Communion Breakfast with Bishop Caggiano an Event to Remember

Sunday, June 3, 2018 was truly a special day for not only the Brother Knights of Council 14360 and their families, but also their fellow parishioners at St. Matthew Church in Norwalk.

Bishop Frank Caggiano of the Diocese of Bridgeport made not one, but two appearances at St. Matthew on this day, beginning with a very special Communion Breakfast at which he spoke about the importance of family.

Bishop Frank described his own personal experiences as a young man growing up in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Italian immigrants, trying to discern whether or not he had a calling to the priesthood. He elaborated upon how challenging an experience it was for himself and his family, and how much the support of his family ultimately made a difference in shaping his path.

After the Bishop spoke, a delicious breakfast was enjoyed by all, and numerous prizes were raffled off.  A little later that day, Bishop Frank returned to St. Matthew to lead a special Eucharistic Procession in honor of the feast of Corpus Christi.

This year’s Knights’ Communion Breakfast was once again chaired by Brother Ron Miller. Many thanks to Brother Ron for all of his efforts, and to Brother Erric Moretti and his wife, Lisa, for their wonderful vocal contributions!

NORWALK, Conn. – The Most Reverend Bishop Frank J. Caggiano will be the special guest speaker at the Knights of Columbus St. Matthew Council 14360’s 5th Annual Family Communion Breakfast on Sunday,  June 3, 2018 after the 9am Mass (around 10am) in the St. Matthew Masterpool Great Room,  216 Scribner Ave in Norwalk.

The Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano was installed as Fifth Bishop of Bridgeport on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at St. Theresa Church in Trumbull.

On February 22, 2014, he formally convoked the 4th Synod of the Diocese of Bridgeport, the first in 32 years, as an opportunity for renewal and pastoral planning.

More than 8,000 faithful turned out for the Synod Closing Mass Celebration at Webster Bank Arena on September 19, 2015. Under his leadership the diocese has launched the Catholic Service Corps, the Diocesan Leadership Institute, ongoing Strategic and Pastoral Planning, Foundations in Education to support Catholic schools, the Face of Prayer social media campaign, and other initiatives to renew the liturgical and pastoral life of the diocese.

Born and raised in the Gravesend section Brooklyn, he was admitted to Yale University in 1977, and transferred to Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, where he graduated summa cum laude. After briefly working in the publishing industry, he was ordained to the priesthood on May 16, 1987, in the chapel of the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston, Queens.

A noted catechist, Bishop Caggiano was invited by Pope Benedict XVI to deliver World Youth Day talks in Sydney in 2008, Madrid in 2011, and by Pope Francis to serve as a catechist at World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, 2013. In 2016, he led a delegation of almost 300 young people to World Youth Day in Krakow, where he served as a catechist. More recently he delivered a major talk at World Youth Day REUNITE held in Washington, D.C.

He presently serves on four committees of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB): Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis; Subcommittee on the Catechism; Orthodox Union Catholic Dialogue; Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Bishop Caggiano speak at our Communion Breakfast.  We appreciate him taking time to speak since he has such a hectic schedule”, said St. Matthew Knight and Family Communion Breakfast chairman, Ron Miller.

Bishop Caggiano will engage the crowd with his wit and down to earth personality on June 3rd.  He will speak about the importance of family.   The breakfast will cost $15 per person; however, children 10 and under are free.  For reservations, please go to https://squareup.com/store/kofc14360 or contact Ron Miller at 203-561-0523 or George Ribellino at 203-856-7101.

Knights of Council 14360 Hold Annual Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest

Recently, Council 14360 held its annual Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest. This year, there were approximately 200 entries courtesy of students from All Saints Catholic School in Norwalk.

It was so much fun to see how the students interpreted the idea of “Keep Christ in Christmas” through their art work. Those involved in judging the posters found it very difficult to select winning entries due to the dozens of thoughtful, creative posters submitted.

Four winning posters representing different age groups were ultimately selected by the judges. These posters will next be submitted for judging at the state level of competition.

The council members enjoyed the judging and fraternity during the process. Special thanks to Mrs. Linda Dunn, Principal of All Saints, for once again teaming up with our council to host the contest and to Chancellor Chris O’Connor for helping coordinate it.
